A far nicer route now is to go west from Greenwich towards Rotherhithe and then across the Thames on the ferry to Canary Wharf. You even have the fun of taking your bike through a hotel foyer to get to the pier!

You have a handful of clearly very intelligent people who are calmly making their points and arguments and just letting each other say their piece without cutting over each other or sniping. I would suggest a short version of this to make it a lot more popular.

Of course, my answer is to choose a place that is well planned and poorly designed, and I justify that on several points. 1- Because planning is an input to design and design is an output. Very intuitive and analytical. As one of your Thames Poly class of 83 & 85 its been interesting for me visiting over the years and seeing it transform. Very few folk seem to have the insight you speak of and there appears to be the usual individualism and ego evident that limits many major developments around the world. There is hope yet though, with the rise of design urbanism and its good to hear Robert's emphasis of those key aspects. Perhaps you could take a walk-through Battersea Park next.

I used to live on the Heygate estate during the 80's for about 5 years (just over). I lived in the highrise Ashenden on the 9th floor, and looking out on all the trees, and all the greenery was lovely, and now you've gotten rid of most of them. I would have thought in this day and age of climate control keeping the trees beneficial! You're sitting there coughing and blaming the handful of trees that have been kept, when it's quite clearly the building work going on in the background. The only benefit I can see is the balconies, and maybe the shops, but other than that it looks just like a concrete jungle, and I bet the properties are a lot smaller, as most new builds nowadays are.

Love this video. As someone who has recently been researching a lot about the working classes' relationship with nature and green spaces this was a very insightful video. It's so strange, I grew up on Loudon street, in Derby, yet had no idea who he was or how impactful the Derby Arboretum was for Britain as a whole.

Sustrans are a bunch of do-gooders and nothing more. They cause major inconvenience to people with their 'recommendations' They recommended that a road adjacent to a local school is closed during usually busy times to 'encourage people to walk scoot or cycle to school. The reality being the cars just park round the corner on my own and neighbouring streets. They also recommended that a major thoroughfare in town was converted partly for a cycle path. I've only ever seen it used by Deliveroo and Just eat riders. What a waste of money.

Thank you for this video - I lived there for like 2 months in 2007 or 2008. I arranged it as a last minute place to stay on my arrival back from a round the world trip. The stuff that the owner of the flat was doing were crazy as I found out later. He was running a brothel there while I was at work. He said mafia was chasing him and was going out with a knife. Craziest place I stayed in in my entire life haha

I always thought the Barbican was an ugly, dystopian, maze like hellscape until I got to know it and I discovered the lake and conservatory. Yes it does have its ugly side but there are parts of it that are just unbelievable like the water feature at the lake. It’s a great piece of architecture
